Grow dash Share, a Community Collaborative
We are a group of local community members focused on food research development and sustainable sources. We are gathering volunteers to share information, knowledge and resources.
We are caring volunteers’ with integrity, helping the community and each other for nutrition, health, food security, and fun!
Typically we meet monthly at designated location and work to develop the group’s projects.
Meetings are usually the second Tuesday of each month.
Next Meeting: Tuesday May 8, 2012, 5:30PM to 7:30PM.
Location: Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 9th Street, Florence Oregon 97439
Some of the venues we are developing include:
• Develop fertilizer resources and distribution.
• Explore use of city parks for community gardening.
• Develop youth gardening skills and school and family involvement.
• Create seed banks and bulk food storage in the community.
• Create emergency networks working with individuals and organizations to secure food in the event of a disaster or food shortage.
• Permaculture, education and implementation.
Please feel free to contact us with input, ideas and suggestions. Please come to our meetings and share and grow.
Please do not contact us to solicit products or services. If you are interested in working with us to help secure our food sources or just learn how to plant and grow please contact or join us at one of our meetings.

Rotary First Harvest and the City of Florence are considering opening up a new community garden site at the old Senior Center on 15th Street. In order to do this according to City regulations, we need to find people who will 'adopt" Singing Pines Park, across the street, as part of the City's new Adopt-A park program.
The black top can be torn up and water is available. Final details are to be worked out if there is community support.
If you are interested in getting involved in this project...or know someone in that neighborhood who would benefit from a garden spot...or would like to participate in "adopting" the park, please let me know at this email or contact David Armstrong at the Methodist church.

Florence Food Share is putting together a project that will get food to the neediest on a consistent basis. This project entails putting special bags in as many households as possible, the idea being to put a can or whatever you can afford in the bag each week. It would be picked up at two month intervals and help supply a consistent amount of food for the needy in Florence. There are times when Food Share is very low on food, and this would be a huge fix for that.
This has been done in many other communities...and Medford, which has about 80,000 people, after three years, has just about covered the entire city.
The first pickup date would not be until August, but Karen at Food Share needs to hear from interested people so that she can organize the bag distribution. Her number is 997-9110.
Also, she is looking for people to volunteer to be their neighborhood's "captain" to help organize the bag deliveries and food pickups.
I hope you will seriously consider taking part...it's so important these days. You need only contribute what you can afford.
Thanks
